Henri Matisse Exhibition

I visited the Royal Academy of Arts in London to view the Henri Matisse exhibition, “Matisse in Studio”. His exhibition showed all of the objects he had collected throughout his life time from his travels to countries abroad, including Africa and Israel. These objects featured heavily throughout his work, which gave a true cultural theme to many of his pieces. I found this very inspirational, and a theme that I felt was appropriate for me to take in my own work. Most of his works had a cultural theme behind them or a glimpse of an object that he had in his collection. For example, a portrait that he painted of his daughter, later sold to Picasso, was based upon and structured around an African mask he had collected. These created an interesting emotion to the portrait that resembled that of the original African mask.
